26 years of fighting for dignity and peace in South Kivu
1999
Founding of RFDP
A Congolese NGO founded on November 4, 1999 by 17 female activists to promote women's rights.
2000
World March of Women
To ensure women's participation in the peace process, RFDP was at the forefront of establishing the Provincial Coordination of NGOs and Women's Associations in South Kivu (COPRONAF).
2002
First legal clinics
Legal assistance has been provided to women before the Courts and tribunals of Bukavu since 2002 through the provision of lawyers.
2003 – 2004
Training of gender trainers
Three training workshops on gender and conflict transformation were held in Uvira and Bukavu. Ten trainers were certified at the end of these workshops.
2006
Sexual violence repression laws
RFDP, together with other women's organizations in South Kivu united within the Coalition Against Sexual Violence (CCVS), initiated a draft bill on the repression of sexual violence and another on victim assistance, leading to the promulgation by the President of the Republic, in 2006, of two laws repressing sexual violence in the DRC.
2008
Functional literacy program
Functional literacy on women's and girls' rights in the territories of Walungu, Kabare, and Mwenga since 2008 to date, along with the design of a dedicated manual.
2011 – 2023
Psychosocial support and reintegration
From May 2011 to November 2023, RFDP carried out, with the technical and financial support of Swiss Cooperation, a program of psychosocial support and social reintegration for women and girls who were victims of sexual and gender-based violence.
2016
Research and advocacy
A study on witchcraft-related issues in the health zones of Mwana and Kaniola, South Kivu, published in 2016, along with a proposed decree on the status of a public institution called the 'Reparations Fund for Victims of Sexual Violence in the DRC' (FORVS).
2018
Study in mining sites
Study on sexual and gender-based violence in the mining sites of South Kivu Province.
2023
Two decree-laws on GBV
The Strategic Advocacy Alliance, led by RFDP, actively participated in advocacy efforts that led, in September 2023, to the promulgation by the President of the DRC of two decree-laws on GBV (Decree-Law No. 23/023 and No. 23/024 of September 11, 2023).
